Toolbox Support #1

Connecting your device to the Toolbox

Getting the Toolbox up and running with your tablet is surprisingly a very easy procedure. The only thing required is for you to enable Developer Options and ADB on your tablet. So, without further ado, let’s get started.

At this point, please read the section below (follow the correct guide that is made for your tablet) on how to set up the device so it works with the Toolbox.

FIRE HD 8 (2018)/FIRE HD 7, 10 (2019) Guide:

  1. Turn on your tablet and go to Settings > Device Options > About Fire Tablet and tap on the Serial Number until you unlock Developer Options.
  2. Press the back button and find the new Developer Options and toggle it on.
  3. Scroll down till you find USB Debugging and enable it.
  4. Download the latest version of the Toolbox from the Downloads section of this page and install it onto your PC.
  5. *Plug your tablet into your computer and allow Windows to install the necessary drivers (if you haven’t done so already).
    * If you are on Windows 8.1 or below the drivers for “Fire” WILL FAIL. This is normal and is to be expected.
  6. Open the Toolbox and wait for it to setup the environment and start ADB (It may appear that the Toolbox is frozen, just please give it a second).
  7. If you are on Windows 8.1 or below the Toolbox will inform you that additional driver setup is required and will ask for your permission to download and install the required drivers. Click the “Yes” button, wait for the download to finish and follow the driver setup. If this for some reason doesn’t work, please follow this guide to manually install the drivers.
  8. At this point, If drivers are setup properly… the Toolbox will inform you that the “device isn’t authorized. Please authorize your device now.”
  9. On your tablet, you should see a new prompt asking if you want to Allow USB Debugging and should show the computer’s RSA key fingerprint. Tick the box that says “Always allow from the computer” and hit ok.

That’s it, the Toolbox should recognize your tablet and will take you to the main menu. Enjoy!

FIRE HD 8, 10 (2017-2014) Guide:

  1. Turn on your tablet and go to Settings > Device Options and tap on the Serial Number until you unlock Developer Options.
  2. Find the new Developer Options and tap on it
  3. Scroll down till you find Enable ADB and enable it.
  4. Download the latest version of the Toolbox from the Downloads section of this page and install it onto your PC.
  5. *Plug your tablet into your computer and allow Windows to install the necessary drivers (if you haven’t done so already).

  1. I have an 8th generation Fire 8 HD (2018) and am trying to install Google Play Store, have connected successfully to the toolbox and supposedly installed the Play Store app but when I logon to the Play Store I get the “Checking Info…” screen which then takes me back to the sign in screen, trying to logon again just goes round in the same loop. There is a notification message from the Fire – “Update Google Play Services” “Google Play Services won’t rununless you update Google Play Services”! How do I do that if I can’t access the Play Store?

  3. Installed toolbox 7.1 and drivers (windows7). Worked great first time. every time I start toolbox since then it tries to re-install drivers even though windows recognizes that the Fire HD is attached. I uninstalled the drivers, restarted computer, still toolbox refuses to connect. Tried switching USB ports, still no success.

    1. Hey, Samuel!

      If the Toolbox is recognizing your tablet and pushing you through to the main menu but still asks to install drivers after the Toolbox is restarted, please follow these steps to resolve the issue:

      1. Navigate to the Settings folder (default: %LOCALAPPDATA℅\Datastream\Amazon Fire Toolbox V7.1\bin\Settings)
      2. Open the Settings.txt file.
      3. Change the following string from DriversInstalled=0 to DriversInstalled=1.
      4.Save the file.

      That should do it. If you need further help please do let me know. Thanks! 🙂

    1. At this point, please look down at your tablet and you should see a new popup appear with the computers RSA fingerprint. Check the box “Always allow from this computer” and then tap “OK”. This should do the trick. Please let me know if you need further help.

    1. When you open the Toolbox you may see a “>” icon at the bottom right, click it and it should take you to the second page of tools (where you can find the Sideload Apps tool).

      Please let me know if you need further help.

  7. Thank you so much for this tool! But I’m having trouble installing Google Services on my Kindle Fire 7 tablet. The app downloads, but then I get error messages for several of the interim components like Play Services. Finally it does successfully install the Play Store, but from my tablet when I click on it, it just flashes and then goes back to the home screen.

    1. To be more specific, it’s the Play framework, Play services, and Play account manager that I get “ERROR” showing in the Fire Toolbox app when I execute the Google Services install.

      1. I’d recommend opening the Settings and uninstalling any services related to Play Store. Ensure the following apps are uninstalled:

        * Google Play Store
        * Google Play Services
        * Account Manager
        * Google Play Framework

        After uninstalling the apps, try re-installing with the latest version of Fire Toolbox. Please let me know if you have any further questions/concerns. Have a great day!
